Sky Sports was not part of the initial Sky Television plan and it was originally started as part of the British Satellite Broadcasting division. It’s counterpart in the Sky TV family was Eurosport that the company promoted as part of the four first Sky channels. With the merging decision between Sky and British Satellite Broadcasting in 1990, Sky Sports entered a new phase of evolution, the program underwent re-branding and a logo addition, with the broadcaster choosing its encryption as a means to trigger subscription usage. In the fight for transmission rights with BBC and ITV, Sky Sports won by making a very convenient bid.
Thus, in 1993, Sky Sports became known for broadcasting the FA Premier League Football exclusively. Another event that marked the development of Sky Sports was the introduction of Soccer AM, a morning chat show that brought all the international football events under discussion. The show had such a success that it is still aired today with Max Rushden as a presenter; Soccer AM is actually considered a media phenomenon increasing the reputation of the Sky Sports channel group to a level of fame unprecedented before in the history of the company.
From 1998, Sky Sports is broadcast in digital mode too, and this change coincided with the launch of two other sports channels in the group: Sky Sports News and Sky Sports Xtra. The novelty of the digital system back then was the choice of the interactive feature, meaning that the viewers had the opportunity to select the camera they viewed during matches. The concept became very popular afterwards for other sports too, being known as Sky Sports Active. New additions to the shows broadcast included horse racing and cricket. From 2007, the Irish network Setanta Sports also has the right to broadcast Premier League football, thus breaking the monopole held by Sky Sports.

One other market approach concept specific to Sky Mall is the use of goods from various manufacturers for drop-ship purposes, delivering the ordered items to the customer via a third-party system of dealers. What can one order from Sky Mall? Sky Mall is organized on major departments from travel, sports, seasonal and hobbies to office products, health and wellness, electronics, computers, apparel and pets. If curious about the stores Sky Mall collaborates with it suffices to mention Alsto’s, VEGAS.com, Sharper, Steiner Sports, Brookstone and several others. Due to the large extent of the business and the place they occupy in the consume society, Sky Mall is part of popular culture.
Funny and appealing to the public taste, parodies of the Sky Mall appeared as books, songs and even webcomics. But despite such ironic approaches, the truth is that Sky Mall brought a fortune to its founders with a market capitalization of more than $80 million. The secret of the market success was the efficiency of the service: you order the product on the plane and you can get it when you arrive at the airport. The challenge was the creation of the infrastructure which eventually led to the design of the automated warehouses where the goods are picked, packed and sent to the airport in thirty minutes.
The surprise came from the fact that the Sky Mall money started to pour not so much from the airport orders that were initially estimated at two hundred per day, but from home-deliveries. Yes, the passengers studied the Sky Mall catalog on the plane, but did not want to add extra items to the luggage, so they had them home delivered. Thus, from the sober looking figures of the early 90s and the money bleeding days, Sky Mall got to generate lots of money with brighter prospects for the future.

The channels broadcast by Sky Digital TV UK received new numbering at the beginning of 2006 when the company also started a new market approach with different campaigns and special offers. They are aiming at quality entertainment and good movie channels, but any user should be aware of the fact that the best channels also require superior technologies, such as a minimum Sky+ box if not a Sky+HD model. Interactive services are also available with the OpenTV system; for such variants Sky Digital TV UK relies on set top boxes that incorporate the modems for the return path.
For a general picture on what Sky Digital TV UK offers, it suffices to say that a digital receiver gives you access to their free to air channels that include both encrypted and unencrypted broadcasts. According to these specifications, users may have to pay a monthly subscription or not depending on the free-to-view or pay-to view variants. An intermediary case here is the possibility to select pay-per-view services that are also available with Sky Digital TV UK. Last but not least, the receiver has to be equipped with the Videoguard UK in order to decipher the encrypted mode.
This Videoguard is solely used for Sky Digital TV UK without any possibility to apply it for the decryption of other services. Breeches in the system do exist and there have been cases when the unofficial CAMs were used as a means to get access to the service; yet, you should keep in mind that for such cases the user’s contract with Sky Digital TV UK becomes invalid and the user loses all the rights to benefit from the card applications. Another limitation you should know about is the regional one as Sky Digital TV UK operates only for Wales, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Sky Blue Airlines was founded in 2003 as a company specialized in training pilots especially for the ATR42/72 series, and it is often mistaken for a real airline, even if it only provides training and compliant services. At present, Sky Blue Airlines’ reputation speaks for itself with an increasing popularity ever since they also got the license to train for Boeing 727 300 to 727 900. The sites of the courses in their programs are usually Europe and the United Kingdom, but the company is also available to provide training tailored to more peculiar specifications. Some people even call them the Academy Sky Blue Airlines.
Many European and Asian airlines have used the services of Sky Blue Airlines for the training of their pilots either for short courses or aiming at more specialized air crafts. The aim of the institution is that of training pilots in the best mode possible, and they actually started with including their free trainees in the programs as a means of adding up to their experience as well. Sky Blue Airlines rely on simulator programs that have direct view gear and texturing enhancements similar to regular flight conditions. The requirements for being accepted at Sky Blue Airlines is that you have a perfect score in the test exams and be over 16.
Applications for pilot licenses at Sky Blue Airlines are only accepted for candidates over 17. Such modules are designed for people interested in private or commercial flying who do not need to train for a Boeing for instance. It takes six months before you can become a real pilot with all the skills necessary to fly the real thing. Furthermore, Sky Blue Airlines focuses on training for new air craft constantly updating the programs and the features so as they be a match for the market requirements. The fees and costs course programs are usually negotiated according to the extent of the module and its complexity.
The procedures applied by Sky Blue Airlines fit the standard modes, with the possibility for trained pilots to fly anywhere in the world for any air company, regardless of the country. Career counseling as well as pilot recruiting are also part of the advantages offered by Sky Blue Airlines; thus, trainees can apply for a position and be contacted as soon as there is an apt vacancy available. Adequate information and lots of answers to potential questions can be found on the official site of Sky Blue Airlines. Good luck!

Spirit in the Sky is the song composed by Norman Greenbaum in the late 60s that made history all around the world by lyrics, tune and cultural impact as well. The writer of Spirit in the Sky found his inspiration after listening to a gospel song on TV, and it took him no more than fifteen minutes to write the lyrics. It refers to the afterlife and the Christian experience in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Though, Greenbaum is Jewish and identifies himself as such, the Christian dimension of the song did not go unnoticed even if the author claimed that he had no religious intention to pour in the song.
The explanation for the Christian references to sinning that are obvious in Spirit in the Sky are explained by Greenbaum as an attempt to reach to broader audiences, particularly since the concept of evil doing is common to all cultures and religions, and it is far from being limited or regulated by Christianity only. In terms of sound print, the guitar is the dominant note in the musical economy of the song, and it is said that a Fender Telecaster with a fuzz box inside was used in order to generate the preponderance of the guitar sound.
The characteristics of Spirit in the Sky are amazing by the innovation in the sound: psychedelic rock music meets gospel in a combination of tambourines, hand clapping, great drum playing and distorted electric guitar. Though Spirit in the Sky became a hit, its beginnings were pretty difficult as the record company showed increased reluctance towards producing it because of the uncommon lyrics and original style. Spirit in the Sky saved the album on which it was included, since it came after two other single releases that had very little public success. In a sort of way, the producing company felt compelled to try and save the boat, without even imagining the kind of impact the song would have on the market.
John Lennon, the famous Beatles member, expressed his great liking of Spirit in the Sky, while the Rolling Stones gave it only a 333rd place in the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Even so, the song hit the charts in Australia, Canada, USA and United Kingdom, and it made a statement that was to become a foundation stone for glam rock development and the more extensive usage of electronic technologies in music making. Due to its message and sound specificity, Spirit in the Sky applied to the necessities of film making too, being included in over twenty movies.

If in the past, golfers depended on good caddies to help them move around the golf course, Sky Caddie has become the modern assistant that is not only knowledgeable but also very accurate. What exactly is the job of a caddie? Well, carrying the golf crosses is not exactly everything, the person for the job should have good information on the distances and be able to advise the player according to it. This kind of service enables the golf player to focus his/her attention on the execution of the shots; the general tendency is for professional golfers to have a caddy, which clearly distinguishes them from amateurish players.
A Sky Caddie eliminates all the disadvantages of playing on a course one doesn’t know. Sky Caddie is an electronic device that indicates the distances to all potential targets. The mapping and recording of this information is possible by the use of high precision survey-grade equipment that stores all the data corresponding to the various points on the golf course. An alternative to Sky Caddie, satellite images proved highly affordable but unreliable, and ceased to be used for the application. Experts rate Sky Caddie as the golf gear item that will save you up to five shots if you use it correctly.
Various types of softwares can be uploaded on Sky Caddie to serve different purposes: thus, commentators at golf championships use the device in order to be able to tell viewers how far the golfers shoot and what the green or hazard rates are. Moreover, the use of Sky Caddie enables the creation of performance statistics for each golfer on every hole in the course. Such applications have brought great reviews for Sky Caddie from golfing experts who label it as the most accurate golf GPS system ever designed. All the courses that can be downloaded in Sky Caddie as they have been previously mapped by professionals.
Sky Caddie allows the measuring of both the depth and the shape of the green from any angle and distance on the course. Among the technical features we could count the automatic back-light, the rechargeable battery and the water-resistant case, not to mention that it only requires one hand operation. Nevertheless, there is one disadvantage spotted so far in the design of Sky Caddie: the fact that it has to be kept dry all the time particularly on rainy rounds. Other negative reviews point out the inability to use the mapping system even after uploading the course program. For such cases the buyer needs to contact the manufacturing company in order to get a viable solution to the problem.

Who hasn’t admired the beauty of the night sky? There is a historical, cultural and religious meaning to the picture mankind has created about the night sky throughout thousands of years of history. Most ancient cultures focused on the study of the sky map and planned all their major life events accordingly: cults of the sun, ritual astronomic sites, calenders and even legends and myths gravitate around constellations, stars and other celestial bodies. And all these start with the belief that Earth is connected by invisible links with the rest of the bodies in the universe. Modern man is no longer paying that much attention to the night sky, at least not for ritual purposes.
The night sky is presently scrutinized with other scopes in mind: we are looking for scientific evidence to support the theory of UFO visitation, we watch major cosmic events through huge telescopes that get to peek in the inner life of the galaxy or we simply feel fascinated by the beauty of the high spheres. Depending on the time of the year when one watches the night sky, different constellations are visible as the Earth orbits around the sun. The map of the night sky as we see it today was first envisaged by the Greek who actually gave the name to many of the constellations.
Given the present condition of our atmosphere, the night sky vision is often blurred because of pollution. One thing is for sure, a large metropolis with lots of industrial activity and plenty of cars running permanently make a lousy astronomy observation spot. Many people claim to have seen the most beautiful of night sky panoramas in the mountains, where the altitude made them feel like they could touch the stars. The purer the air, the better the visibility of the night sky. For those who take a great pleasure in astronomy, the study of the constellations with the help of various softwares and private telescopes is really fun.
Last but not least, the study of the zodiac is directly related to the position of the stars on the night sky. Every sign of the zodiac has an afferent constellation, and its location together with the movement of the planets in the solar system lead to the creation of the horoscope individually, monthly or for the entire zodiac sign. This is actually the astrological explanation why people born under the same sign share a set of similarities. All in all, we have never stopped keeping the eyes focused on the universe, as the interdependence is sometimes more than obvious.

Has it ever occurred to you that you can buy a star in the sky? Well it is possible to name a star after you, and this is what people actually imply by a service where they buy a star in the sky. This fashion trend has become a profitable opportunity for businesses that intermediate the deal particularly since the star naming is considered both romantic and very chic as a birthday gift or some form of memorial to someone. Skeptical about it? No one would blame you; just imagine how many stars called ?Jane? there must be. Yet, the star name is registered only with the company that sells the service and it does not appear in any other official records.
The most common of occasions when people buy a star in the sky include anniversaries, new babies, birthdays and other special events. A star is surely a unique and thoughtful gift, just think of how significant such a gesture can be when associated with a baby’s coming to the world. Most of the stars known to our world have names from the antique times and such data were kept in special atlases that are as old as two and a half millennia. The International Astronomical Union is the one presently in charge of celestial body naming, and they do not recognize the stars you buy from all sorts of companies.
When you want to buy a star in the sky, you get to choose among several packages that can be ordered online or through mail after filling a form. The naming of the star is usually around $15, but the star certificate, the plaque for framing it and some informative literature on astronomy are also included in the package. Moon phase calendars, books and atlases as well a plani-sphere make the elements of the kit in the most advanced or special of variants. Such a gift costs around $100 and it is thought to be very efficient in terms of sentimental impact on the person it is offered to.
Keep in mind that even though you buy a star in the sky, this isn’t going to be the official name, and it will be present in your records only but not in the official documents of the astronomical institutions in charge of sky mapping. Nevertheless, a star with your name is definitely a cool gift and the certificate with its coordinates and astronomical information make possible the eventual identification of the celestial body.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky is an animation film by Hayao Miyazaki released in the United States in 1986; the film takes its distant inspiration from a novel by Jonathan Swift, Gulliver’s Travels, where Laputa is a floating island peopled by superior creatures. The story of this castle in the sky proves one more time that people remain fascinated with the sky and what is out there so little accessible to us without the intermediary of technologies. The plot starts from the premises that there is still a hidden flying city camouflaged behind clouds; to some characters this remains fiction, while others seek to find the hidden fortress. Laputa: Castle of the Sky has to reveal its secrets!
This castle in the sky surely belongs to a parallel Earth with an alternate history since none of the regions or place names that we come across in the film corresponds to real geographical data. The time of the action is sometime between the middle of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The documentation for the history of Laputa as the castle in the sky is pretty impressive given the fact that we are dealing with fiction at its purest level. Thus, there are hegemonies over other aerial cities, then, Laputa, normally governed by a royal family, has been several times abandoned, not to mention that there are lots of clues about the relation between Laputans and earthlings.
The creator of Laputa: Castle in the Sky says to have been greatly influenced by the architecture of a mining town in Wales, and this model served for the design of the buildings of Laputa. The release on video and DVD took place only in 2003 as the project had been postponed several times before. During that year, Laputa: Castle in the Sky became the second-best selling DVD distributed by Disney after Spirited Away.
Various distinctions set apart the original and the English dub, but the effect of Laputa: Castle in the Sky was not diminished by such differences. The soundtrack is a bit different so as to make the animation more accessible to wider audiences since Westerners are usually expecting rich or substantial musical support as part of the accompaniment. Moreover, all the alterations received the approval of the makers although some fans disagreed with some of the decisions. In Japan, Laputa: Castle in the Sky got numerous awards among which Best Film of the Year as well as Best Anime at the 9th Anime Grand Prix.

Ghost Riders in the Sky is a country song composed in the cowboy style in 1948 by Stan Jones. Little did he know then what a hit his song was going to become, as there have been dozens of rewrites and versions over the decades. Ghost Riders in the Sky is a visionary song about a cowboy who sees cattle with red eyes being chased by ghost cowboys in the sky. He is warned to change his life style or risk to become one of them as a punishment for all his evil deeds. The song has strong echoes of European myths and it surely has a great artistic making.
Ghost Riders in the Sky has become a classic by now, and almost all the big names of country music made an attempt at its interpretation. Moreover, it seems the that the famous band The Doors took their inspiration from Ghost Riders in the Sky when they created their Riders on the Storm hit. From all the versions of the song, the one recorded by Vaughn Monroe in 1949 was the most popular enjoying the first place in the Billboard charts of the year, and holding this position for no less than twenty two weeks.
Ghost Riders in the Sky was performed in the movie Blues Brothers 2000, and then it was even taken as a source of inspiration by a German heavy metal band. Along the years, other rock bands made attempts at adapting the original country song to the more aggressive sounds and lyrics of rock music, and they enjoyed different levels of success. Beside rewrites, new versions and source of inspiration, Ghost Riders in the Sky also fueled all sorts of parodies from the Ghost Writers in Disguise to politically engaged lyrics that some listeners may not even be aware of.
An Irish parody version of Ghost Riders in the Sky refers to the destruction of British helicopters by IRA members, though no such violence has ever occurred. Despite these politically engaged messages that could be added to the?Ghost Riders in the Sky, most of the performing artists are not aware of them, and sing the song without any reference to terrorist or Republican facts. Last but not least, Ghost Riders in the Sky also served as a starting point for the creation of some football club songs by supporters. Yet, beyond all the remaking, it is clearly obvious that Ghost riders in the Sky made history in the annals of country music.

Nina Sky is the name used by the twins Nicole and Natalie Albino for music stage performance. Though they had a childhood marked by music experiences of a variety of kinds, Nina Sky girls only launched songs on the market in 2004. They both know how to play drums and the guitar and their musical background is a very eclectic one given the fact that their step dad is a DJ. They wrote their first song at the age of seven and by the time they turned ten they were committed to becoming singers. It took some very good years afterwards for Nina Sky to finally get the chance to show artistic talent on stage.
Before hitting the charts, the girls from Nina Sky worked as DJs and started developing their own sound under the guidance of two musical producers, Elijah Wells and Lionel Bermingham, known as the Jettsonz. Through this connection, Nina Sky came to work on their first single Move Ya Body that combined Caribbean rhythms with some R&B beats. The demo version of the song was very much to the liking of a division president from Universal Records, and things started to go smoothly for Nina Sky.
Move Ya Body was the single that opened many doors for Nina Sky but they had to move further on with their musical career. It was time to focus on music promotion, and they started working hard in this direction particularly, with their efforts reflected in the increased response to reggaeton music on both sides of the Atlantic. At the end of 2007, Nina Sky finished their collaboration with Universal Records and went for J Records, with an album that is still under work. In the meantime the twins put together all sorts of remixes of other very popular songs like J. Holiday’s Bed or Cassidy’s My Drink n My 2 Steps.
Nina Sky’s songs address pretty varied topics from love themes and friendship to loss and bitter stuff of an emotional nature. On the other hand the beat of their music is vivid with serious R&B tonalities that don’t pass unnoticed on the dance floor. Nina Sky even participated to the writing of the famous Betty Wright’s song You Deserve for which they also contributed as guest vocalists. With only two albums, lots of remixes and collaborations, there are many other things to expect from Nina Sky. Will there be a reorientation in style or will they follow the same beat? It remains to see.

An 80s Western music comic group, Riders in the Sky are the winners of two Grammy Awards for their great performances in famous motion films: For the Birds by Pixar and Toy Story 2. Initially, Riders in the Sky had only three members, Douglas Green alias Ranger Doug, Paul Woodrow Chrisman alias Woody Paul and Fred LaBour alias Too Slim. Joey Miskulin known as Joey the Cowpolka King joined the group to play the accordion in the 90s. The Riders in the Sky have been incredibly active over the years, and they still have a great impact on the public and a word to say in the showbiz.
The Riders in the Sky stand out not only by their artistic talents but also by the high education level of the group members: Ranger Doug has a Master degree in literature, Too Slim in Wildlife Management and Woody Paul a PhD in theoretical plasma Physics. If that is not an impressive array of diplomas, then what is? Riders in the Sky have a career not many other groups can boast with; in their twenty-five years of activity in entertainment, they have more than 5,200 live shows, 200 radio acts, 300 television appearances, over 700 Grand Ole Opry participations and three TV series. Add thirty albums to the list and you get the summary of a lifetime dedicated to art.
Other activities of Riders in the Sky include the appearance in CBS morning shows on Saturdays from 1991 to 1992 as well as many Christmas events put together for television purposes. As for their music, Riders in the Sky remain authentic and faithful to the cowboy and Western songs they perform. On different occasions they have crossed the line between music and comedy, getting into parody representations of great quality. Wit, music talent and respect for the old American spirit are the values to have kept their popularity high for so many years.
Fans can learn about the events to which Riders in the Sky take part by consulting their official site and see what’s new in their web agenda. You can also have a look over the group biography and check with their impressive hall of fame. After all, Riders in the Sky did win the title of Entertainers of the Years seven times as well as Traditional Group of the Year and Traditional Album of the Year on multiple occasions too. From this perspective, it is explainable why Billboard magazine considers them a major chapter in the history of American music.

Access to news from around the world, twenty-four hours a day, this is the challenge of Sky News. Broadcasting from the heart of London, Sky News is a channel that addresses the needs for the latest events on the national and international level. It was one of the four channels founded in 1989 by Rupert Murdoch as Sky Television, and although mainly servicing the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, Sky News is also broadcast via satellite with access options for users in other countries too. The network also uses complex system of radio stations all around UK; News Corporation thus includes the seven bases in Great Britain as well as the rest of global bureaus located in various parts of the globe.
Sky News relies on a somehow classical formula for news broadcasting with two presenters anchoring; yet, the channel has got quite a reputation for the innovations they brought in the news broadcasting field, and they constantly win awards in recognition of such achievements. Besides the anchors and weather forecasters, there are some thousands of journalists spread all around the world gathering the latest news and sending them to millions of people in no time. If we count the hundreds of technicians and other employees behind the screen too, we get a multi-dimensional picture of what Sky News is in terms of stuff management.
Improvement rules with Sky News! The graphics for instance are revamped every year; the latest change dates from last April when Sky News chose to adopt a minimalistic design in screen graphics. Such modifications are understandable given the tough competition with BBC and other news channels of international caliber. Along the years BBC and Sky News overtook each other in ratings even if there are multiple platforms on which the channels are carried. Yet, Sky News won a better reputation with the increasing emphasis they put on interactive news.
At the international level, Sky News is transmitted through many cable providers that offer English language line-up packages. Expatriates are the ones to enjoy Sky News the most since it allows them to stay in touch with their home country. This international version is free-to-air on the satellite Astra 1L, but it is encrypted on a number of other satellites designated for international reception. Northern Europe for instance has access to it based on cable package subscriptions, but, Sky News is also transmitted to Central and Southern Europe too.

There are seven million subscribers who enjoy Sky Television in their multitude of services: they have it all from cultural events and entertainment shows, movies and interactive opportunities, to news, sports and great documentaries at a high video and sound quality. Sky Television was founded as a four channel network in 1989 by Rupert Murdoch, but it merged with its competitor British Satellite Broadcasting in 1990 and it became British Sky Broadcasting. Even after the merge, the company was still in serious financial trouble with millions of pounds being lost every week. A serious change in the management and the creation of a subscriber base allowed for the gradual recovery of the losses and even the making of profit in the following years. The new Sky Television became a success.
Sky Television is the largest subscription-based TV service provider that enters around ten million of British and Irish homes. The headquarters of the company are in Osterley, London, with the uplink with a direct connection to the satellite located just outside Southampton; yet, most of the Sky Television departments are concentrated in Livingston and Dunfermline, Scotland. Along the years various changes occurred in the internal organization of the company, the structure of the packages offered to subscribers as well as fee adjustments.
Access to the channels provided by Sky Television is achieved by means of the Sky digibox with or without personal video recorder included. If you choose the complex set, then it would be like having your own TV channel to enjoy freely. One other great option promoted by Sky Television in order to increase the number of customers is the use of interactive TV services; viewers can even select what cameras to have access to during sports events for instance. Besides the subscription-based services, Sky Television also broadcasts around 160 free to access radio and TV channels via satellite.
The average package costs the Sky Television subscriber somewhere between £16 and £21 per month without any of the premium channels included. The variation depends on the programming and combinations that the users select. More advanced options have Sky World with Sky Sports and Sky Movies included, and such a Sky Television offer costs £45. The technical requirements are not difficult to meet: the satellite system has to be pointed in a certain direction that the satellite technician will take care of, and it needs to include a Sky box with an active viewing card. Furthermore, the company also requires that you have a credit card, whether Visa, Mastercard or Eurocard.
